You Probably Have a Resistance to Sales

We’re natural born salespeople as a human race. If you doubt me on that, think of a toddler. When you try to tell them you no, they don’t give up, they persist, push, and come up with all kinds of different angles to win you over. Let me give you some sales coaching, sales is communicating with someone to lead them down a path.

The thing that I love the most about sales is selling is a service from honesty, integrity, and compassion. Selling is about leading. It’s about moving people to action. You see, most people have the wrong definition of sales.

Most people don’t want to look pushy. Maybe their first experience was a car salesperson. Perhaps it was a telemarketer calling them at home, and now they have a negative stigma around sales. Regardless of why you don’t like sales, you need them to be successful in business.

You have to get your head in the right place to make money. Start with your mindset. Are you sold on your product or service? Would you buy your own product or service? It all starts with your mindset around selling. If you don’t believe in your own product or service, why would anyone else?

An Aversion to Sales

You have a resistance to sales if you hesitate to pick up the phone and make phone calls, or the thought of making a cold call scares the heck out of you. You also have a resistance to sales if you don’t want to approach somebody and talk about your business.

If you think about life, we go from being naturally born salespeople as kids into developing a high resistance to sales because of society. Most people have a resistance to sales. There’s a stigma when you think of being a salesperson.

I Used to Have One Too

When I first started my first business in 1990, my mentor at the time told me to go out and generate leads and find prospects for my business. In other words, go out and have a cold conversation with someone. He gave me scripts, told me how you approach them and, how to handle objections.

However, I could not get myself to go and do it because I was scared. I did not like sales. I had just got out of school to be a computer engineer. I hated sales! So, as a result, that first business failed after trying for three and a half years. I didn’t have the courage to go out and sell.

It wasn’t until I started coaching with a client of mine that I realized I had a resistance to sales. So, if that’s you, I want to give you some advice to help you create that breakthrough in your mindset around sales.

Fix Your Mindset

Selling is about leading and moving people to action.

Selling equals service from honesty, integrity, and compassion.
